Read the package cover for ingredients, dosage, and amount of fiber (grams per serving) as products vary

If you take tablets or capsules, for most products you will need 5-6 tablets/capsules to equal 1 powder serving
- Many products are available flavored and unflavored
-
The above are examples of available products but many different brands are available for the same ingredients. They vary in price and flavor
-
Ensure adequate water intake when you take the fiber supplement and have at least 8 glasses of water per day
-
Gradually introduce fiber in your diet (starting with 1 dose a day) and increase slowly to avoid bloating and gas. If you get gassy with psyllium then try a different fiber ingredient
-
Taking a fiber supplement is in addition to increasing your dietary fiber and not as a complement replacement. The best source of fiber is intake from natural sources [see section on High Fiber Foods]
- Ideal fiber intake for an adult person is 25 to 35 grams per day
- The above recommendations are for age 15 years and older
Above recommendations are generic recommendations for constipation but do not constitute an alternative to a proper medical evaluation by a physician to assess your condition. It is important to note that some patients with constipation may have more serious conditions that require different treatment.
