Dr. Maher A. Abbas co-hosted the annual colorectal cancer awareness event at Al-Zahra Hospital. March is colorectal cancer awareness month. Colorectal cancer is the second to third most common cancer globally and it claims the lives of nearly 1 million people. Along with breast and cervical cancer, colorectal cancer can be prevented or cured early through comprehensive screening. Several modalities are available to screen for this type of cancer including stool studies and colonoscopy. Any person over the age of 45 years should get screened for colorectal cancer. Furthermore, any person with symptoms like bleeding, constipation, and/or abdominal pain should get checked. Screening saves lives.
